We have launched our plan to change how Britain’s railways operate. Our plan has 6 key objectives:
- Reliable – so that people can have confidence in their journey, whether its a one-off trip or their daily commute.
- Affordable – so that prices are kept, wherever possible, at a point that works for both passengers and taxpayers.
- Efficient – so that people know that their journey will be as straightforward as possible, from booking to travel, and to provide better value for the travelling public and taxpayer alike.
- Quality – so that passengers have the service experience they have a right to expect.
- Accessible – so that our railways are available for everyone to use.
- safe – so that people don’t worry about their safety on the railway and are not in fear of accidents or crime while travelling.
Of these key objectives Accessibility is a key area of concern for many in Hamble Valley. I met with local resident Andrew who explained to me that wheelchair access to some stations was simply not fit for purpose.
Accessibility is also important for parents with pushchairs and strollers or those with a temporary injury. There are other stations in the area which are the same! Swanwick has no access to the Fareham bound platform while Botley has no disabled access at all.
I will ensure promised funding reaches Hedge End & Swanwick Stations. I will also campaign for accessible access to Botley station.
We need to take back control of our railways and Labour’s plan is fully costed. You can find more on Labour’s fully costed plans here: https://labour.org.uk/updates/stories/labours-plan-for-our-railways/
