Water companies across the country are polluting our waterways and coastlines with impunity and without regard for the environment or public safety.
Last Year Southern Water dumped sewage into the River Hamble 354 times for a total of 3746 hours.
That’s 156 days, 3 times per week on average!
Some sites within the constituency saw an increase in sewage dumping from 2022 of up to 1500%.
And this is while Southern Water made profits of £285m and their owners made profits of £4bn!
Steve Reed, Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs has been clear that a Labour Government will hold water companies and water bosses to account.
Labour has committed that in Government it would impose automatic and severe fines for water companies that harm the environment and pollute our rivers and give new powers to the regulator to block bonuses until water bosses have cleaned up the filth.
Our waterways and coastlines are an integral part of our constituency. For both residents and visitors and our wildlife, it is vital that our waterways and coastlines are kept free from pollution.
Hamble Valley Labour will always fight to keep our waterways and coastlines clean so that we can all safety enjoy these wonderful assets within our constituency.
