
After speaking to local residents, community champion Stephen Whitewood has called for pedestrian controlled crossings at the very busy junction of the A27 and Swanwick Lane saying “with the existing complex phasing system and filter lights it is impossible to see when it is safe to cross”. Stephen has also asked HCC for a full review of traffic calming measures in Swanwick Lane itself, due to speeding traffic and overweight lorries using the cut through road. HCC has refused both. Stephen has said that he will keep pressing the council to review their decision.
Keir Starmer’s Labour government have made £14 million of extra funding available to fix Hampshire’s potholes.
But many roads in our area are left in a poor state – particularly dangerous for cyclists when wet weather makes potholes hard to see.
Labour’s answer is an elected mayor for Hampshire in 2026. A mayor with access to more funding for local infrastructure, public transport, planning, growth, environment and climate change, health, wellbeing and public safety.
